Why another energy manager

Why OptiBee Energy as your energy manager.

No cloud dependency

Measurement, control and the 15-minute re-plan run on the device. Internet down, optimisation up.

No vendor lock-in

One controller drives the inverters, batteries, wallboxes and heat pumps you already own — 98 brands · 277 models.

No extra meter

Embedded three-phase metering, Class 1. One less meter to buy, one less to wire.

No fixed feature set

An app store on the device. Install what you need, remove what you don’t — or install your own.

No black box

Every measurement, forecast and dispatch decision is readable — ready for AI agents.

The engine

OptiBee Energy — a next-gen EMS.

A conventional EMS dispatches devices from fixed strategies. It cannot keep up with the amount of information and the number of device types that keep arriving. That is what a next-generation EMS is for: it weighs weather, time, device type and live state together, learns from them, and optimises on what it has learned.

One forecast model per PV plant

Our own model, running on the device. For each plant separately it learns how the measured yield relates to the weather, and predicts what that plant will generate. Every day adds a day of measurements, and the forecast gets closer.

Dynamic tariffs are part of the solve

Day-ahead prices enter the same optimisation as the forecast and the load model. Charging, heating and battery cycles land in the cheap hours as a result, not because someone set a timer in spring and left it there.

day-ahead, ct/kWhhours the solve picked

The plan is redrawn every 15 minutes

Each solve looks 48 hours ahead, but only the next quarter-hour is committed to the devices. Everything past it is a proposal the next solve is free to revise when the price curve or the weather moves.

Apps together beat a single app

The Edge Platform holds a live twin of every device. ZeroClaw is the agent that reads those twins and decides. Node-RED is where automation runs. ZeroClaw sets up the Node-RED flows and drives the platform through them — none of the three does that on its own.

Ready for AI agents

APIs, skills, the obee-ctl command-line tool and worked samples are already there. Your own AI agent takes the devices over directly — there is nothing to build first.

One day

What a solved day looks like.

PV surplus charges the battery, the heat pump moves into the cheap window, the EV finishes before departure.

SAMPLE DATA
  • PV
  • Battery
  • Price
  1. 03:0005:15 · Cheapest hours of the night

Day-ahead price falls to 9 ct. The battery charges and the heat pump runs its cycle now, not at breakfast.

  2. 10:3015:15 · PV above the house load

The surplus goes into the battery and the EV instead of the grid, because the evening price is already known to be higher.

  3. 17:3020:15 · Evening price peak

At 43 ct the house runs off storage. Nothing was scheduled for this hour — the price made the decision.

The hardware

Every interface an installer needs.

Four modules wide on the DIN rail. Three-phase metering built in, so the meter cabinet does not grow.

RS485

Two native RS485 buses, each usable as master or slave. In slave mode the device serves its own readings to the inverter, so the installation needs one meter fewer.

Ethernet

EEBUS, Modbus TCP, MQTT and the local web interface. Plug it in and it is reachable.

USB → everything

The expansion port. With an adapter it becomes WiFi, a second LAN, more RS485 or CAN, KNX, or extra storage.

Adapter catalogue
L1·L2·L3·N

Three-phase metering

L1, L2, L3 and N are measured in the device: Class 1 on direct measurement, up to 63 A per phase. External CTs are supported above that, with the ratios set in software.

Who it is for

Three ways into the same platform.

Homeowners

  • Keep the inverter, battery and heat pump you already have
  • Dynamic tariffs used automatically, not manually
  • Your data stays in the house
  • Fits into your smart home — KNX, Home Assistant and more
  • Installed once, saving for years
Use cases

Installers

  • Simple residential install — no CT or phase-order complications
  • Remote diagnosis instead of a second visit
  • Remote maintenance gateway: KNX, networking, security systems
  • Partner Portal for managing fleets
  • Partner revenue-share programme

Third-party developers

  • Open: device twins for data subscription and control
  • API, tools, SDKs and docs ready to go
  • Sandbox to run your app on the device
  • Publish to the app store and earn from it
  • Ready for AI Agents, and for building them

Getting started

Three steps to a simple start.

  1. 01

    Specify

Check your devices against the driver catalogue. Send us anything missing.

    Request a demo
  2. 02

    Install

On a DIN rail, or plug-ready in an enclosure. Then connect the devices it will control.

  3. 03

    Go live

Set OptiBee up and the optimisation starts. Not sure how? The AI agents help you through it.

Compatibility

It already speaks to the hardware on site.

No vendor lock-in. The mainstream brands are already supported and the catalogue keeps growing. Every protocol is local — no internet, no cloud.
