Connect a device
Register an inverter, battery or wallbox — brand, model, connection, first values.
Devices are registered in the Edge Platform. You pick the brand and model from the catalogue, give the controller the connection details, and the device appears with its live values. There is no register map to type in for a model that is in the catalogue.
Before you start
From the device's installation manual or its own display, note:
- RS485 devices: the Modbus address (unit id) the device answers on, and which of the controller's RS485 ports the bus is wired to.
- Network devices: the device's IP address and Modbus TCP port. Give the device a fixed address, or a DHCP reservation in the router, so it does not move.
- Any login the device requires.
Check the model on the compatibility list first — it says what the integration does for that model.
1. Open the Edge Platform
In the controller's interface, tap the third icon in the bottom bar — Apps. Edge Platform is at the top of the list; tap its open button (Open App, App öffnen). The home page's apps card has the same shortcut.
2. The setup checklist
In the Edge Platform, open Settings (Einstellungen) → Site Setup (Standort-Einrichtung). The checklist shows what the controller can set up by itself and what is still missing, grouped into site, data sources, devices, and forecasts & scheduling. Each row carries a state — Done (Fertig), Pending (Ausstehend), Setup (Einrichten) and so on; the header says A few steps left (Noch einige Schritte) until everything is in place, then All set (Alles eingerichtet).
Under Devices, tap Register devices (Geräte registrieren). The same page is also under Settings → Register device (Gerät registrieren).
3. Brand, model, integration level
- Under Select a brand (Marke wählen), search for the brand or narrow the list with the filters (heat pump, inverter, charging station).
- Tap the brand. Its models are listed, each with its Integration level (Integrationsstufe) — what our driver does with that model, from reading values up to power control with safety limits. The levels are the same as on the compatibility list; see Device support for what each one means.
- Tap the model. If the template covers several variants, pick yours under Model (Modell) at the top of the form.
4. Connection
The form asks for what this model needs; the connection type comes with the template.
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Display name (Anzeigename) | A name you will recognise, e.g. "Inverter garage" |
| Device ID (Geräte-ID) | Optional. Leave it blank and one is generated. It cannot be changed later |
| Modbus unit id (Modbus-Adresse) | The address set on the device |
| Serial port (Serielle Schnittstelle) | RS485 devices: the controller port the bus is wired to |
| IP address : port (IP-Adresse : Port) | Network devices: e.g. 192.168.1.110:502 |
| Credentials (Zugangsdaten) | Only when the device needs a login. Stored on the controller and not shown again |
Several devices can share one RS485 bus: choosing a port that is already in use adds the device to that bus. They need different Modbus addresses.
Press Register (Registrieren).
5. First values
After registering, the device's own page opens. Its state is shown at the top — Online when the controller is reading it — and the values fill in within a short time.
The device also appears under Devices (Geräte) in the Edge Platform's navigation.
When no values come
| The device page shows | Check |
|---|---|
| Connecting (Verbindet) for a long time, or Offline | Wiring (A/B on RS485, the network cable), the port or IP address in the form, and that the device has Modbus enabled |
| Error (Fehler) | The reason shown under the device name |
| No point data for this device yet (Noch keine Punktdaten für dieses Gerät) | Give it a minute; if it stays, check the Modbus address and the port or IP address |
| Stale (Veraltet) | Values arrived and then stopped: check the device's power and connection, and whether its IP address changed |
To correct the connection, open the gear on the device page — Settings (Einstellungen). It is the same form; the device ID and Modbus address are fixed there, so a wrong Modbus address means registering the device again.
Devices that announce themselves
OCPP charge points and MQTT devices such as Tasmota connect to the controller by themselves. Once you point them at the controller, they appear at the top of the register page under Discovered devices (Erkannte Geräte); press Add (Hinzufügen) to take them in. The steps for each kind are shown when you pick that brand.
