Before you start

What has to be true about the board, the network and the devices before the controller goes in.

An OptiBee Energy Pro is a controller, not a meter you bolt on afterwards. Most of the work in a retrofit is deciding where it sits electrically and what it is allowed to reach — the mounting itself takes minutes.

The network

The controller runs the optimisation locally. It does not need a cloud connection to make decisions, and it does not stop deciding when the internet does. It does need to reach the devices it controls.

One Ethernet port is on board. If the cabinet has no cable to it, a USB network adapter is the other route — see USB adapters for what the port takes, and Network for how to choose.

The devices

Check the inverter, battery, wallbox and heat pump against the compatibility list before the site visit. The list also says what the integration does for each model — reading values and switching a device are different levels of support, and it matters which one a plan depends on.

Pre-visit checklist as a printable list: what to photograph in the board, which device settings to note (Modbus address, baud rate, static IP), which credentials the customer has to have to hand. Needs a pass from someone who has done ten of these.
